#FindsFriday mystery object

We have a bit of a #mysteryobject for #FindsFriday this week.

Found by our new curatorial volunteer amongst Arthur Harrison's collection is this small copper-alloy coin(?) which appears to have a hole pierced through the centre.

Unfortunately due to the condition of the coin, which was excavated in Rochester in 1962 it's hard to make out the details but it was found amongst a collection of #roman objects.

Coins were often pierced after they went out of circulation, sometimes as purely decorative jewellery and sometimes as a way of identifying your loyalties. Others believe pierced coins may have had talismanic significance to them, offering protection to the wearer.

I'll be sharing more objects from our ongoing cataloguing as they are worked on.

Any ideas on this object please do comment below! ~ Andy, Curator
