The Archaeology Research Group of the Kent Archaeological Society is proud to present its annual fieldwork conference focusing on “Recent archaeological work in the Darent Valley.”

The conference will be taking place at the wonderful Aylesford Priory where the ARG recently held its Fieldwork Forum. The conference will present six talks on four sites found throughout the Darent Valley including the Roman villas of the Darent Valley, Lullingstone and Otford Roman villas, The Archbishops palace at Otford and St Johns Jerusalem. Programme

  • 10.00 – 10.20: Registration

  • 10.20 – 10.30: Introduction

Morning Session:

  • 10.30 – 11.15: Keynote Speaker – Dr. Gerald Cramp: Roman Villas of the Darent Valley

  • 11.15 – 11.45: Comfort break

  • 11.45 – 12.15: Dr. Anne Sassin, Darent Valley Landscape Partnership – Reinvestigating Lullingstone Villa

  • 12.15 – 12.45: Kevin Fromings, Discover Roman Otford Project – Church Field, Otford - a Villa full of Secrets

  • 12.45 – 13.15: Questions and discussion on the morning session talks

Lunch:

  • 13.15 – 14.15: Lunch (Food not provided). Please make your own arrangements. There are facilities for lunch at The Priory

Afternoon Session:

  • 14.15 – 14.45: Dr. Charles Shee, Archbishops Palace Conservation Trust – The History and Archaeology of Otford Palace

  • 14.45 – 15.15: Nathalie Cohen, National Trust – St John's Jerusalem – A preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller

  • 15.15 – 15.45: Break for tea

  • 15.45 – 16.15: Ann Isenberg, Darent Valley Landscape Partnership – Digging the historic gardens at Lullingstone Castle

  • 16.15 – 16.30: Closing remarks

The conference will finish at 5 pm.

Location: St Simon Stock Room, The Friars, Aylesford Priory, ME20 7BY.

Lunch will not be provided so please make your own arrangements. There are lunch facilities at the Aylesford Priory.

Tickets are priced at £20.00 for non-members and £15.00 for members of the KAS. On the booking page members of the society will need to log in using their VeryConnect credentials which will then present the discounted ticket price.
