Scadbury Moated Manor, Chislehurst

The Orpington and District Archaeological Society will be opening its excavations at Scadbury Moated Manor to the public on 14th & 15th September 2024 from 14.00-17.00 (Last entry 16.30).

Visitors can follow a self-guided trail around the moated manor site – which still has its moat around it. They will see the archaeological excavations and the foundations of the Tudor kitchens and great hall, showing how these would have been used when the house was owned by the Walsingham family. Visitors can also see World War II defences and a restored shepherd’s hut.

Access is from the public nature trail around Scadbury Park. The entrance to the event is where the trail passes the moated site. The nearest access from the road is along the footpath at 14 St Paul’s Wood Hill: turn left along the circular trail, 10 mins walk. From Old Perry Street car park the entrance is around 30 mins walk along the trail.

There is no visitor parking at the site. Buses R11, B14 stops L and F (Breakspears Drive)
