#FindsFriday: Metal Detected objects
It's #FindsFriday!
Today our curator Andy has been working through some of the Metal Detected objects recovered during work at Badlesmere on the Lees Court Estate, all the way back in 2019!
This small post medieval button made of copper alloy is plain and was most likely its front plate was cast before being attached to the rear, smaller plate. The most interesting element is the fact that where the button was fitted between a small ?iron ring, we have textile elements remaining!
It's fascinating to see the remnants of clothing preserved through contact with metal that's been buried in the soil for a hundred years or more.
This button weighs 5.3g, has a front diameter of 14.7mm and a back diameter of 12.2mm.
