#NationalIllustrationDay and #FindsFriday

Today is #nationalillustrationday as well as being #findsfriday

National Illustration Day, an initiative by the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration , is an annual celebration of the pictures that are essential to our lives and the brilliant people who make them.

Archaeological illustration is an extremely important, if often overlooked skill. Artefact drawings provide a permanent record of an object which we can use to not only illustrate our publications, but also use as a comparative tool to check an objects condition.

The society is extremely pleased to be hosting Holly on a student placement from the University of Reading. Holly will be with us for an entire academic year before she moves onto her dissertation, working with the British Museum's Maya collection!

Holly has been hard at work illustrating our Early Medieval Ozengell Collection which includes these fabulous amber beads. Unfortunately due to the #collectiontrauma suffered by the collection we are unsure of exactly which grave these came from.
