Wills of Gillingham Shipwrights 1621 - 1852 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury (Pre 1858) including an index of names. Transcribed by D.E. Williams.
The village of Gillingham, with a variety of vessels on the Medway, c 1830. The village was a favourite residence of many Royal Dockyard workers and officials, as well as Military and Naval men. (See my Monumental Inscriptions of St Mary Magdalene, Gillingham)
In contrast, the High Street of Brompton, c 1860's, has a rather urban atmosphere. The area was first settled in the 17th century and in the period covered by the wills was partly in Chatham and partly in Gillingham. The main gate of the Royal Dockyard was adjacent to Brompton. (Collection of the Royal Engineer's Museum)
